Has Anyone Been to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina?
Hi. I am Australian and I want to move to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina for work. I was just wondering if anyone has ever been there/lives there.
Like how hard is it to get a Visa? I researched it and according to the website you either have to be a specialised person (eg lawyer) or be working an labour where they cant get enough Americans. I will be applying for an apprenticeship to work with animals.
Also what is South Carolina like? Are the people nice? Hows the weather? What advice would you have for someone planning to move there?

Hello from a local! The places that I know of that actually have animals, trainers etc. are Ripley’s Aquarium, The Waccatee Zoo, Alligator Adventure. I do not know if any of them are hiring at the moment. I’m not sure about your taxes and prices “down under”. Our local tax rate here is .11 cents on the dollar. Which is high. Prices of products are also high due to it being a tourist area. Rent will run you about $600.00 a month for a one bedroom. We do have taxi’s and one commuter bus line (sort of). It has a very limited route. Most likely you would work as a server or bartender to get your feet on the ground. The Myrtle Beach are is now a “melting pot” we have people from all over the country living here. The weather can get pretty hot in the summer, we have actually had an extended winter. Currently it is only 50 degrees. Chilly for us down here this time of year. My advice would be to make sure you have a job first. You can read our local paper at www.thesunnews.com. There is a lot of information in there. Don’t be surprised if the job listings (what we call classifieds) is sparse. Summer hiring is not in full swing yet. Good Luck.
