why a freshly cut wet, long wood get bent / curved on drying ?
When water begins to evaporate from wood, it loses weight and the wood fibers begin to move. It’s usally better to wait until lumber has “curied” (dried) before cutting it. When people obtain wood, it’s best to dry stack it (criss-cross the stack) to allow some wieght to the wood as it dries, while providing some weight to prevent the wood from bowing and curling.
Conversion is just one method of cutting lumber to reduce wood distortion, and there are others. However, I think the process of stacking and drying is more imprortant.
