Solid masonry walls are built with an outside brick face and inside wythe made of 4-inch blocks or terra-cotta tiles in older homes. Plaster is usually applied directly to the block walls or drywall to furring strips. The best way to insulate such walls is to apply rigid insulation to the interior finish and drywall over it.
