Identify the origins of a stone slab with Asian inscriptions on it located near a river in New Zealand?
A natural stone object found partly buried near the banks of a river in Auckland New Zealand with Asian inscriptions on it. Looks like a lintel or step as it has 4 crudely carved feet.
My guess is the stone is granite, it weighs 28kg 570mm long x 220 wide x 115 high
Face 1: Has 2 circles either side of a scene, the circles have what appears to be Chinese characters and the scene appears to have a bird at each side and a mountain scene possibly in the middle.
Face 2: Has 3 circles made of what appears to be drawings of people
The underside is very coarsely done with a chisel, and the figures similar, just finer work.

Isn’t there a chinese language section you could be asking this question in? Given that Auckland has 200,000 or so chinese living in it you should contact the local chinese community. At least you’d find out what language it was, actually I think it might be japanese.
