Turning Luthier
My violin’s fine tuner?

Ok, so I just got new strings for my violin. One day, my D string was out of tune and I was tuning it with my fine tuner and the fine tuner got stuck! I can’t turn it left or right. What can I do to try to fix it before I take it to a luthier?

Slacken the string off a little bit with the peg, then try to unscrew the fine tuner (as if you were making the note flatter). If you still can’t shift it, you need help. What’s probably happened is that as your new string has stretched you’ve adjusted it tighter and tighter and have hit the end of the screw threads.

If you manage to undo it, then move it to about the middle of the screw thread and then tune the string as close as you can using the peg before using the fine tuner again.
