Mini lathe wood turning?
Im looking to make a little bit of cash, and woodturning seems like a lot of fun. Id probably just make pens and stuff. From experience, does anyone know how difficult pen turning is? Also, how expensive are small lathes?
I’ve been turning for a few years now and love it. However, it does take practice. The toughest part for me is keeping my turning tools very sharp. And they DO NEED to be sharp. Pen and pencils are pretty quick projects. And you can make some money on them if you’re in the right maket place. But as simple as they are, I wouldn’t classify them as starter projects. The end product is very thin wood, or whatever material you choose, around a brass tube. It’s very easy to ruin a pen or pencil while making your finish passes. But one you get the feel for it, you’ll have a ball. There are lots of accessories that you will need to make pens and pencils. The list is too long to get into here.
